Raleigh Cottage is a beautiful thatched one bedroom cottage, set within the five acres of grounds surrounding our Grade 2 Listed 16 Century Devon longhouse.
Historically thought to have been a cottage on the 400 year-old farmstead, it has been sensitively renovated and the original character preserved. The interiors are designed to provide the perfect rural retreat, well equipped and comfortable.
The bedroom sleeps two in a kingsize bed and boasts beautiful views over its private cottage garden and on to the gently rolling hills of North Devon. Wake up to the sight of the cows peacefully grazing in the fields over the valley.
Entering through the stable door, the kitchen is full of character from the rustic terracotta floor tiles to the full height ceiling revealing the original timbers which held the original thatch in place. There is a dining table and chairs to enjoy a relaxed meal cooked in your very own “bake off” slide and hide oven. There is a ceramic hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and washing machine. There is also a large freezer in the outhouse opposite.
The well-equipped kitchen leads down three steps into the cosy sitting room. A bookcase with the exposed stone of the ancient cottage, has books and games. There is a smart TV and WiFi is available throughout. Sitting on either the sofa or armchair allows a view through the French doors of your private enclosed cottage garden.
A few stairs lead up to the bedroom which again has French doors and a Juliette balcony affording views of the garden and the Devon countryside beyond.
On the landing is a large cupboard with hanging space for clothes.
The bathroom offers a large walk in rainfall shower with excellent water pressure. The hot water and underfloor heating throughout is provided by the onsite biomass boiler. All towels and bed linen provided.
You are welcome to explore the secluded meadows in the grounds of Raleigh including the small woodland and make use of the picnic area.
